Dunkirk has the third-largest harbour in France, after Le Havre and Marseille. One of the most popular ferry routes is to Dover in the United Kingdom, and it takes around 2 hours. One reason for the popularity of this route is because the nearby Belgian town of Adinkerke has lower taxes on certain products like alcohol, so people come here to stock up! Please note that it isn't possible to use the ferry terminal as a foot passenger because the docking terminals do not have passenger bridge.
Dunkirk terminal has a lounge area with facilities for the disabled. It also has The Bottle Stop, which offers a comprehensive range of wines and beers at competitive prices. The shop opens from 9 am-9 pm, Mondays to Fridays, and from 9 am to 6 pm on Saturdays.
When arriving at the terminal, please have your passport and booking reference ready and passengers should check-in no later than one hour and no longer than two hours before departure.
Getting to and from the passenger terminal
The ferry terminal is situated west along the coast from Dunkirk town centre, around a 25-minute drive. The nearest town is Loon-Plage, 5 km away and it has some bars and restaurants. If you are coming from Lille on the A25, join the A16, in the direction of Calais. From the A16 Dunkerque/Belgium, take exit 53 (24) and follow signs 'Port Rapide/Car Ferry'. From St Omer, take the D600, which crosses the A16 direct to the terminal.
There is a free public car park in front of the terminal building, but it is unsecured, and owners leave their vehicles at their own risk.
