The port of Cagliari is in the south of Sardinia and provides ferry connections between mainland Italy and the Island. Cagliari is an ancient port built by the Phoenicians, today it continues with both commercial and tourist activities. In recent years there has been expansion and the port is growing in popularity. The port is divided into two areas, the historic port is devoted primarily to commercial traffic and the port channel for trans-shipment. The passenger terminal is located near Via Roma, where there is an area for food and drinks.
The port can be reached by car along the state roads that depart from the main cities such as Olbia, Oristano etc. Traveling along the E25, or the SS130 and 131, when you get close to Cagliari just follow the signs for 'Cagliari porto'.
You can also reach Cagliari by bus or train and the port is easily reached on foot, as both the train station and the bus terminal are opposite the port area about 200 meters away. From Cagliari airport there are shuttle buses that depart and arrive in accordance with the departures and arrivals of the ships. The shuttle takes about ten minutes and is provided by ARST.
The airport is connected to the port by train from Elmas Airport to Piazza Matteotti station in just six minutes. The connection runs every 20 mins from 0500 to 2100.
