Where to eat in Corfu: Three tavernas not to be missed!
The island of Corfu is famous for its beautiful mountains, fabulous beaches and unforgettable food. Discover where to eat in Corfu with Netferry, we have three of our favourite tavernas to share with you today.
We begin in Gouvia, a small, peaceful village ideal for the family. We recommend Filippas taverna, a large place with wooden tables and chairs with excellent food. The courteous staff are happy to assist you in choosing your dishes and recommending a nice wine to accompany your food. Be sure to order the Dolmadakya, which are delicate vine leaves usually stuffed with rice as a vegetarian option or more commonly with rice, ground meat and herbs. Next must-choose item on the menu is Saganaki, which is fried cheese, similar to halloumi, why not accompany it with tomatoes, cucumbers, pita and tzatziki - an excellent yoghurt and cucumber based sauce. You can also find all the traditional Greek dishes here including souvlaki and moussaka and they are always accompanied by chips! Don’t forget to add an ice cold glass of Mythos beer…..and relax!
Between the towns of Dassia and Ipsos, there is another an unmissable taverna called Kostas, everything you taste at this place is exceptional. The tables are set under a beautiful pergola, surrounded by flowers and plants. The staff speak a little English and are friendly and helpful. For starters, order pita and tzatziki with some fried aubergines. The slices of aubergines are fried in a light and crumbly batter that fills your palate with joy! There is also roasted octopus and chips on the menu and don’t worry, the octopus is always delicious and soft!
At Kostas, they serve both meat and fish dishes and if you prefer meat then we recommend the lamb cooked in a wood oven, it is tender and tasty. If you love fish then ask for the roasted sea bream: its aroma and taste will have you bowled over! Our final town is Benitses, and the place is called the Captain Octopus tavern, the owners are so friendly and the food is so good! Here we ordered a Greek salad with feta. The menus for the little ones are really interesting too, they have chicken souvlaki and mouth-watering herb roasted potatoes!
