Sicily in a camper with Netferry

Sicily is a fascinating island full of history, delicious Mediterranean food, mountains, volcanoes and the sea!  The best way to see the island is to do a trip in a camper van! In this article, Netferry recommends a few stops along the way!

After arriving into the port of Palermo be sure to explore the streets of the island's capital. The rest area for campers is in Via Quinto dei Mille, which is safe and central.  Next, take the camper up to the Gorges of Alcantara to explore and bathe in the cool waters. Right in front of the entrance to the Alcantara Caves, there is an area for campers to park for a fee, giving you access to water and electricity.

Next, why not head to Taormina, its only 25 km away. This town is a beautiful jewel set on the coast, where there is a camper rest area in Letojanni called Marmaruca Camping, right in the centre of the town.  Take the opportunity to walk around the old town and have a typical Sicilian breakfast, brioche and granita, in one of the bars in the centre!

Next stop on the tour is Agrigento, about 200 kilometres away and the journey is full of beautiful coastal scenery and approaching the hill town of Agrigento. When you are in the area be sure to visit the Valley of the Temples, the ancient city of Akragas and the gardens of the Kolymbetra, they really make you appreciate the scale of the Ottoman Empire!

In the Valle dei Templi and the Temple of Juno, there are parking areas and at the Scala dei Turchi, there is a paid parking area with electricity and hot showers. If you are interested in archaeology then at this point, why not visit Eraclea Minoa and Selinunte and then continue on to Mazara del Vallo, a beautiful town on the west coast. It has great beaches and a lovely historic centre with Norman-style buildings and culinary delights at the little restaurants by the sea.

There is another camper area in Mazara del Vallo, located in the Bocca Arena district, it is called the Camping Village where they have all types of service including entertainment, a minimarket and swimming pools.   Between Mazara and San Vito Lo Capo are some of the most beautiful beaches in Italy, so take advantage and enjoy the beautiful sea and the Sicilian sun! All the beaches along here have parking and many have areas for campers, for example, the Camping Village El Bahira. The Netferry camper tour ends here, but there are many other places to discover in Sicily on your next road trip!
